What is the best thing to do to get DUI charges dropped?
Like any criminal offence, not admitting to the crime (drinking and driving) is the one of the most important things but by the time the accused calls a lawyer this may have already happened. Sometimes in the heat of the moment an accused will refuse to call a lawyer even when offered to speak to one for free. Most of the people that call us have an upcoming court date already and their interactions with the police have already occured.Even if the accused did speak to the police and admit to their guilt there may be ways to get these statements thrown out in court.
Police must follow very rigid procedures when arresting impaired drivers in Ontario and also when testing their intoxication level via a breathalyzer, blood test, etc.
Obviously the best thing to do is to contact a lawyer immediately to receive a consultation about your case and what should be done. While a free consultation is not free legal advice it is an opportunity to gain some insight into your potential options and what it will cost to have a lawyer defend your case. If you call us we will provide you with such a consultation for free but ultimately it is your decision whether to hire a lawyer or not.
