Ontario, Canada lawyers dedicated to helping people charged with impaired driving

I am an immigrant to Canada from China who was charged with impaired driving - what is going to happen?

The maximum punishment for impaired driving (including over 80 and refusal) is 10 years in federal prison. This makes it a deportable offence in Canada. Immigrants from China or Hong Kong who are charged with DUI are subject not only to jail, they may be deported and deemed admissible to Canada in the future. Canada is well known for being very tough on DUI offenders. There are many stories of people from the USA who were charged and convicted there being denied entry into Canada because of it even if they did not serve a jail sentence as punishment.

Impaired driving charges are often highly defensible via Charter, search rights, police violations, and other potential case problems in Canada. Just because you were charged does not mean that you will be convicted and found guilty or deported. The case will go to court and there are sometimes options available that will avoid immigration problems if it is handled correctly from the beginning.
